Case study: Bacówka Radawa & SPA Hotel
With the growing emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, hotels face unique challenges in managing energy demand curves, especially hotels such as Bacówka Radawa & SPA in Poland, which focus on recreation, wellness, and catering.
Although many hotels use photovoltaic installations as part of their sustainability and cost-saving efforts, they face a significant mismatch between energy production and demand, grid connection capacity constraints, and low feed-in tariffs.
This is usually due to specific energy consumption patterns, such as higher demand during breakfast and evening use of wellness facilities and dinner service.
Challenges to be addressed
- Grid connection capacity limitations, which restrict the amount of energy that can be sold back to the grid.
- Multiple PV power plants with different production patterns, leading to mismatches with the hotel's energy needs.
- Introduction of a new hourly billing system requiring peak shaving and increased self-consumption.

Introduction of KSTAR technology
A KSTAR BluePulse series energy storage system, KAC50DP BC100DE, was installed in the hotel, integrated with the existing PV power plants and connected to the grid.
The system includes 3 KAC50DP inverter units and a BC100DE battery, integrated with an energy management system.
This allows the hotel to charge and discharge batteries with a capacity of 150 kW, store more than 300 kWh of energy during the day, and use it during peak demand hours.
Results
- Peak reduction: The energy storage system has successfully reduced morning and evening peaks and reduced the hotel's dependence on grid energy during these high-demand hours.
- Increased self-consumption: By storing excess energy during the day and using it during peak demand hours, the hotel achieved an increase in self-consumption, leading to a reduction in energy costs.
